That's right, Lexington, NC is the Barbecue upper-case missive of the alphabet of North Carolina ... together with some would argue, of the world.
Lexington-style barbecue is a project of honey ... pork shoulder cooked slow over a hardwood burn downwardly for hours, lovingly infused alongside nothing-short-of-amazing smoky goodness. The meat is together with then doused alongside a tomato-and-vinegar-based sauce ... the recipe of which is unique to each of the area's many barbecue joints.
And quite honestly? The merits of each barbecue sauce is genuinely a hotly debated topic inward barbecue country. Spirited discussions are known to erupt over which sauce is the best or favorite!
With it's civilization hence firmly rooted inward barbecue, it's no surprise Lexington pays keen homage to the pig. And bear witness of this tin easily locomote seen alongside precisely a uncomplicated walk nearly town ... doing a trivial about-the-town grunter spotting ...
Like "Barbecue Pig" ... together with "Lawyer Pig" ...
... together with "Justice Pig". And my favorite ... "Miss Puffy," the Red Bird Mints {made inward Lexington} pig.
Oh, together with grunter bench for a rest, anyone?
Like expert barbecue terra firma folks, our theater unit of measurement loves us some barbecue ... particularly my husband, Mark. He tin seat away a pound of the materials inward i sitting yesteryear himself, I swear. Barbecue is a staple at gatherings together with get-togethers inward these parts ... and, much to the please of my hubby, was served at our solar daytime of the month party, our rehearsal dinner, together with is our family's Christmas Eve dinner tradition.
Our favorite Lexington barbecue place?
Smiley's!
Oh, they larn such keen smoky season inward their 'cue. And I honey their hushpuppies, also ... You precisely gotta bring a side of hushpuppies alongside barbecue!
I wasn't ever a barbecue lover, take heed you. Growing upwardly inward Vermont, I didn't know what the materials was until I met my Southern together with then soon-to-be sister-in-law, a Charlotte, NC native.
To me, ... equally to most New Englanders ... barbecue was a verb non a noun. You know, you lot larn exterior on the grill together with barbecue some chicken. Or ribs. Or hot dogs. Or whatever you lot occur to locomote barbecueing. So the classic North/South barbecue misunderstanding began when my soon-to-be sister-in-law asked the uncomplicated query ...
"Do you lot similar barbecue?"
And I replied, "Barbecued what?"
"Barbecue," she said back.
"Barbecued what?" I responded.
"You know, barbecue."
... a back-and-forth telephone substitution I intend would bring gone on all solar daytime if my Northern-born, transplanted-to-the-South blood brother hadn't stepped inward to explicate that nosotros had dissimilar understandings of that tidings barbecue.
Influenza A virus subtype H5N1 classic, classic moment.
And so, I intend it's exclusively appropriate that I got this Easy Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Barbecue recipe from none other than my sister-in-law.
And believe me, at i time that I alive inward the South, I genuinely empathise both the verb together with noun run of the word.
But inward the comfort of your ain home, a ho-hum cooker together with a chip of liquid fume volition create a tender together with juicy pulled pork barbecue that volition concord you lot over until you lot tin larn your hands on the existent thing.
Now ... I've got to enquire ... practice you lot intend the Lay's build could piece of occupation the hushpuppies into my Carolina Pulled Pork Barbecue murphy chip "Do Us Influenza A virus subtype H5N1 Flavor" contest idea? Like, possibly 3/4 of the handbag locomote Pulled Pork Barbecue flavored, together with 1/4 locomote hushpuppie flavored??
